There’s no need for jealousy

I teach a youth Bible study class at my church, and some days, I’m not sure if I’m the teacher or pupil.  I learn as much from the students as they do from me!  They really helped me understand the power of jealousy.  For example, if I select a student to read or answer a question that someone else desired, the results can be explosive.  I’ve seen rolling eyes, folded arms, pouting, and even withdrawal from the students who were not selected.  Indeed, jealousy is powerful!

Sometimes, we (adults) act like children and let jealousy get the best of us.  If you’re not careful, someone receiving an award or succeeding can rub you the wrong way.  That’s what makes this text so refreshing, for jealousy is nowhere to be found.  All the men referenced in the verses above – Barnabas, Simeon, Lucius, Manaen, and Saul – were qualified applicants for the kingdom work job opening.  When GOD selected Barnabas and Saul, however, the others didn’t get jealous; instead, they “laid their hands on them and sent them on their way” (Acts 13:3, New Living Translation).

When GOD promotes people around you, there’s no need to be jealous.  GOD’S goodness is limitless and doesn’t expire after one blessing.  So don’t be jealous when HE blesses others; instead, get in line, for your blessing is on the way!

What HE does for others, HE can do for you!
