Humble yourself

I heard a challenging remark during a sermon last Sunday.  The pastor noted that although we cite GOD on our currency, we really don’t trust HIM.  Apparently, he’s right.  As I listened to the latest economic bailout plans this morning, I noticed GOD was missing from the equation.  It’s apparent – we don’t trust GOD like we should.

GOD, however, has a way of getting our attention.  HE’LL send hard times whenever we’re standing on a shaky foundation.  The good news is that we can get back on track.  GOD told Solomon, in the text cited above, that humility was the way out of hard times.  In other words, when we recognize we can’t make it without HIM (humble ourselves) and invite HIS assistance (pray and seek HIS face), then HE’LL reverse the “recession” (restore the land).

The beautiful thing about humility is the associated guarantee.  Peter said, “So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor” (1 Peter 5:6, New Living Translation).  In other words, you have to go down to get up.  Go down on your knees (humble yourself), and GOD will help you stand!
