Last weekend I watched a few episodes of Popeye the Sailor, one of my favorite cartoons. The episode when Popeye became a matador really caught my attention. Popeye was a sailor by trade, and certainly hadn’t completed Bull Fighting 101. 🙂 Yet when he ate his spinach, he exhibited skill comparable to an experienced matador!
GOD’S SPIRIT works like Popeye’s spinach – HE gives us power to do the impossible! That’s what happened in this text. On Pentecost, the HOLY SPIRIT empowered people to speak languages they hadn’t learned. This feat was so impressive that the people exclaimed, “These people are all from Galilee, and yet we hear them speaking in our own native languages!”
What an impact the SPIRIT has on our lives – we can do the impossible by HIS power. No wonder JESUS said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you” (Acts 1:8, New Living Translation). Let HIS SPIRIT work through you!
