GOD protects HIS people

Today marks the seventh anniversary of one of the most horrific moments in American history.  On September 11, 2001, terrorists affiliated with al-Qaeda crashed commercial airplanes into the Pentagon (DC), Twin Towers (NY), and a field in Pennsylvania; 2,974 people died in the attacks.  I still remember how quickly hysteria spread throughout our country.  For a while, people were scared to fly or attend large spectator events.  The attack was successful, for fear, the catalyst of terrorism, paralyzed many Americans.

I’m sure the disciples, to whom JESUS addressed this verse, were as fearful as Americans after 9/11.  They had witnessed the life-threatening effects of their commitment to GOD: JESUS died painfully on the cross.  Now HE had returned from the dead, and HE wanted them to continue the Gospel ministry.  Imagine their initial thoughts, “JESUS, are you crazy!  They beat and humiliated YOU; imagine what they’ll do to us!”  But JESUS quickly assuaged their fears; HE offered them witness protection.  JESUS told them that they could minister without fear, for HE would protect them from harm!

I’m glad that JESUS’ protection didn’t end in the New Testament; HE still offers HIS services today.  If you’re on HIS side, then you can live without fear; HE still protects HIS people!

The Lord rescues the godly; he is their fortress in times of trouble.  The Lord helps them, rescuing them from the wicked.  He saves them, and they find shelter in him (Psalm 37:39-40, New Living Translation).
