Be Honest …

Once again, I’ve been led to one of my favorite passages – the first few verses in the Bible.  As I read the description of the earth in Genesis 1:2, I couldn’t help thinking it would have been a great environment to film the next episode of Style Network’s “Clean House” or ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”  I’m still amazed by how God described the earth to Moses.  He could have said, “In the beginning, Moses, the earth was perfect.  It had beautiful beaches with crystal-clear waters.  The entire landscape was breathtaking.”  But, He didn’t.

Instead, God gave Moses an honest assessment.  The earth was a mess – formless, empty, and underneath water.  It needed His touch.  In a subtle way, I think God is giving us a pattern for remodeling our lives.  The first step in God’s extreme makeover is to be honest – admit where you are.  Your honesty gives Him permission to stop hovering over, and start intervening in, your situation.

John wrote, “But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness” (1 John 1:9, New Living Translation).  In other words, if we’ll be honest with God, then He’ll help us.  Now, here’s your opportunity to be honest.  What areas of your life are a mess?  Be honest with God, in prayer, and let Him know you need His help.  If you put your mess in His hands, then He’ll mold it into a masterpiece!
