My parents are definitely a gift from GOD; early in life, I learned they were problem-solvers. For example, my dad helped me with my math homework. Whenever a problem frustrated me to the point of tantrums and tears, I’d leave my dad a note that said “I need help with this problem.” Amazingly, he always came to the rescue. And, he’d even take time to show me how to do it!
Problem-solving is fascinating, and that’s why I love the text cited above. It’s context is relatively short, but the message is powerful – JESUS is the CEO of problem solving. Peter’s mother-in-law was sick, yet the family didn’t waste time worrying or trying to “fix” the problem. Instead, they told JESUS about it immediately. This is an example worth following – take your problems to JESUS.
Later in HIS ministry JESUS said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28, New Living Translation). The invitation hasn’t expired – will you trust HIM to solve your problems? I think the words of an song are a fitting conclusion to this recharge: “JESUS is on the main line, tell HIM what you want … Call HIM up and tell HIM what you want.”
Keep standing …
