Enjoy today, for tomorrow is not promised.

UNC Chapel Hill and the neighboring community suffered and untimely loss this week.  Eve Carson – current Student Body President – died, the victim of senseless violence.  Her death was tragic; she was only 22 and full of potential.  I think Chancellor James Moeser’s words underscore the light of her life: “Eve Carson personified the Carolina spirit. She did perhaps more profoundly than anyone I’ve known in my whole time here.”

As I listened to the news reports and concerns of my employees (current students at UNC Chapel Hill), I searched for consoling words, but to no avail.  Miraculously, as HE tends to work, the LORD reminded me of the passage cited above.  Once again, David has fitting words for life’s challenging moments.  Today, he reminds us how short life is.  Just when we think it will last forever, life expires, sometimes, without warning.

Since life on earth is not eternal, we’d be wise to enjoy today.  Here are a few suggestions to enhance your allotment of time:

  • Spread the Gospel (John 3:16).  It’s still good news; why not share it with someone else.
  • Don’t live in the past (Psalm 118:24; Lamentations 3:22-23).  Each day is a new beginning; why waste it dwelling on yesterday.
  • Cherish your family and friends (Romans 13:8).  Give them their flowers while they live.
  • Live wisely, not wastefully (Ephesians 5:15-17).  Learn from your mistakes.

Be blessed …
