Trials are our spiritual X-ray. They reveal what’s really inside.

I waited 15 minutes in on-looker delayed, stop-and-go traffic on I-40 this morning; just imagine the “pleasant” thoughts I had.  My impatience and borderline fits of rage quickly drowned the soothing, sweet melodies of Israel and New Breed (“Deeper Level” CD, tracks 1-5, to be exact).  The entire time, I yearned for a half-mile stretch where I could floor the accelerator.  If you had heard the things I said to myself, you’d probably question my allegiance to GOD. 🙂

Trials – life’s tough spots – have a way of exposing the “true” you. That’s what happened to the children of Israel – they reached a rough spot in route to the Promised Land.  They were deprived of water but full of Egypt (worldly mentality).  Prior to this incident, many of the Israelites had reason to “stick their chests out.”  The trial, however, revealed a striking reality: they still had work to do.

GOD allows some testing moments to show us what’s really inside.  I pray that your spiritual X-ray returns favorably.

Be blessed …

Sometimes the long road to success is a blessing in disguise. Maybe GOD’S positioning you for permanent – not premature – success.

Last year – 7.27.07 to be exact – I had a speaking engagement. Needless to say, I was pumped, eager for the hour to approach.  Yet strangely, I couldn’t leave work on time that day.  Person after person, situation upon situation … it seemed like everything was hindering my progress.

The delay didn’t make sense until later that evening.  When I arrived home, I saw news footage of a terrible accident on I-40 earlier that day.  If I had left work when I wanted to, I could have been a casualty.  In His unique way, GOD was sparing my life.  Likewise, He had the children of Israel’s best interest in mind; He sent them through the wilderness to keep them from backsliding.

GOD is SO GOOD!  He puts hills and valleys in our lives to keep us on the straight and narrow path.  I guess I’m saying: APPRECIATE THE DELAYS IN YOUR LIFE.  They build character that will lead to permanent success.

Be blessed …

The true test of character is what you do when you think no one is watching you.

Have you ever done something blatantly wrong, suspecting that no one “important” saw you?  Recall the emotional distress you endured – guilty conscience, hyperventilating, paranoia, or sweaty palms.  These are warning signs intended to help you make a better choice.

Moses ignored all of these signs, and still pursued an uncharacteristic choice.  Worse, he, like many of us, tried to cover his tracks, to ensure that no one would find out.  Here’s a gentle reminder: “The Lord is watching everywhere, keeping his eye on both the evil and the good” (Proverbs 15:3, New Living Translation).  Or, as the timeless words of an old quartet melody note: “What’s done in the dark will come to the light.  You’d better get your house in order.”

Be blessed …

Life is a demanding expedition, but God is with us

Life is a demanding expedition, but GOD is with us.  He’s a great companion for this tedious – and sometimes terrifying – journey.

Wow!  Can you see yourself in Moses … questioning your ability while losing focus of GOD’s omnipotence?  Thank GOD; He’s with us through the thick and thin.  And, the good news is like the old song noted, “He’s got the whole world in His hands.”

Just Because

Sickness is an instigator of kindness; people will gladly extend love to someone during their final moments.  But daily, people who don’t know Jesus flirt with death.  Resuscitate their lives with the Gospel.

Joseph, the second most important person in Egypt at the time, found a moment to visit his father.  And look at what happened – somehow, Jacob gained strength from Joseph’s visit.  Just imagine what the good news about Jesus can do for someone who is hopeless!

Be blessed …
