Yesterday I conversed with one of my employees, and the discussion focused on our Easter weekend festivities. Within her comments, she mentioned a new opportunity to pursue her career interests. As excited as she was, she had one reservation – the new opportunity might require walking at night. She said, “I hope the bus runs that late because I’m terrified of walking in Chapel Hill at night.”
As I listened to her remarks, I empathized; in the wake of Eve Carson’s murder, many are on edge. But, within me, some gailing force wouldn’t let me yield to fear. The force was the verse cited in today’s recharge. David notes that he won’t let fear paralyze him, even when he’s in a situation that should make him panic. Why? The answer is simple: GOD was with him!
Life gives us plenty of reasons to panic – high gas prices, water shortages, global war, crime, etc – but we don’t have to fear. The after-party of the resurrection is CHRIST’S ascension, which opened the door to the Comforter, the HOLY SPIRIT. Don’t let fear stifle you, “for GOD has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7, New Living Tranlsation). Press on, knowing that GOD is with you; better yet, HE’S in you!
Walk, holding HIS hand …
