When I was young, I had trouble asking my dad for things. For some reason, I always thought he’d say no. So instead of hearing no, I didn’t bother to ask at all. A request could have been burning deep inside, but somehow, I’d quench the desire to ask.
I’ve discovered that some people think GOD is like that. We falsely assume that HE’S too busy to listen to us or too complex to entertain our requests. But JESUS offers a different perspective in this text; HE encourages us to ask GOD for things. HE said, “Just A.S.K. – Ask, Seek, and Knock!” Later in this chapter, HE adds the reason why we should ask: “So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him” (Matthew 7:11, New Living Translation).
It gets better; Paul adds that GOD can blow your mind if you’ll just ask. He said, “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20, New Living Translation). So whatever you need, just A.S.K.!
HE’S waiting to hear from you …
